Donaghue Beats McClain To Win Senior Masters

Patric Donaghue beat Mark McClain, 224-174, to win the John Nevada 16th annual Senior Masters Championship Tournament at Pleasure Lanes in Hilton on Sunday. Donaghue had swept through the winners' bracket to earn a spot in the finals. McClain, the defending champion, had to come out of the losers' bracket. He defeated Steve Nowicki, 246-153, to reach the final of the tournament for bowlers 50 and up. McClain had to beat Donaghue in Game 1 of the double-elimination event to force a Game 2. He did that, 215-174, rolling seven strikes. Donaghue had only four strikes with two open frames.But in the title match, a four-bagger beginning in the seventh frame gave Donaghue the edge. Earlier, he left three straight 10-pins, but converted them and struck on five of the next six shots. Donaghue won a first-place prize of $630, plus a Senior Masters Championship ring, a paid entry into the state masters tournament and a champions trophy. McClain, who had a split in the third frame and another miss in the eighth, earned $400 for second. Nowicki, a Super Senior (over 65) was third, followed by Ken McJury and Joe Shullek.

Great Turnout for the 29th Annual Seniors Tournament

Chuck Silcoe rolled a 784 series to win the Class E (60 to 64 years old) Division of the Paul Mascari 28th Annual Senior Singles Championship Tournament Saturday at AMF Terrace Garden Lanes. Seniors in six age divisions competed in the tournament, sponsored by the Rochester USBC Bowling Association. Silcoe had games of 213, 267, 256, plus 48 pins handicap to top all scorers. A total of 115 seniors competed. All division winners willl receive a cash award, trophy and a free entry into the New York State Senior Singles Tournament.

Mike Rose Jr Wins the 2011 Masters Tournament

Mike Rose Jr. struck out in the 10th frame to beat Steve Meyer, 207-191, Sunday to win the Rochester USBC BA Masters Championship Tournament  at AMF Gates Lanes.
The victory was the third Masters title for Rose, who was seeded second. Meyer took the top seed for the five-man stepladder fiinals by winning 10 of 12 matches. Histotal of 2,941 pins included 30 bonus pins for eac win.No. 4 seed Norm Bialuski, also a three-time Masters winner, opened the stepladder by beating No. 5 Brian O'Mara (216-198) and No. 3 Bill Stoddard (256-198). But Rose eliminated Bialuski in the semifinal, 236-215, stringing the last six strikes. Rose earned a cash award, a championship ring and an entry into the New York State Masters.

Ricky Zinone Wins The Inaugural Honor Score Tournament

 

Left-hander Ricky Zinone won the inaugural Rochester Honor Score Tournament Sunday with a 480-436 victory over Harris Busmire Jr. at Rose Garden Bowl in Bergen.The tournament, sponsored by the Rochester USBC Bowling Association, was for bowlers who have rolled an 800 series or a 300 game. There were two qualifying squads with Busmire rolling a four-game total of 850 pins in the first squad, good for fourth. Zinone, bowling in the second squad, rolled an 811 total to finish seventh.The top seven from each squad, plus two high-game qualifiers, advanced to match play where they met in two-game matches. Zinone beat Kyle Cortese, 416-398, to advance to the final. Busmire made it by edging Rochester Hall of Famer Mark McClain 446-437.Rose Garden proprietor Tom Sardou qualified for match play, but lost in round 1. There were 22 total entries.

Palozzi & Meyer winners at 700 Tournament

Mike Palozzi shot an 813 series over the weekend (Oct. 15-16) to win the 40th annualMaury Hayes 700 Tournament at Sunset Lanes. Palozzi won the scratch division (210 average and above) of the tournament, sponsored by the Rochester USBC BA, with games of 279, 277 and 257. Left-hander Joe Meyer took the handicap division (209 average and below) with a 728 series. Meyer had games of 233, 224 and 193.The right-handed Palozzi won $500 in the first Rochester BA event of the season. Rob DeLorme was second with a 728; he took home $250. New Rochester Hall of Famer Al Brant shot a 721 series, finished third and won $200. There were 66 entries in the scratch division and 11 bowlers cashed. In the handicap division, Meyer won $250, with Dave Kent second with a 715 series. Kent won $125. there were 25 entries in the handicap division and seven bowlers cashed. Three squads of bowlers competed over two days. Rochester Hall of Famers Bill Hasiotis and Ray Le Chase II won the best ball events on Saturday. On Sunday, Rick Tensley, visiting from Detroit, won the best ball.
